PHILOSOPHY: FIVE REAONS TO LEARN SPANISH
The reasons are many. Here are just a few to inspire you:

1. Stimulate your mental abilities: New medical research indicates that knowing and learning two languages enhances the mental capabilities of children and mature adults by improving memory, creativity and analytical processing. Speakers of more than one language are also less likely to develop dementia.
2. Boost your employment and earning potential: If you have the right job skills and are able to speak Spanish you are more marketable and have an advantage over other applicants. More and more employers are requiring a basic knowledge of Spanish and are offering a better salary to those who have the extra language skill.
3. Travel to an exotic Spanish-speaking country: You can choose from Central or South America, Spain and the Caribbean. Imagine the advantages you will have when you can understand the conversations and appreciate the cultural nuances. You’ll also feel comfortable exploring tourist spots that aren’t marketed as heavily to those who speak only English.
4. Appreciate influence of Spanish culture: Learning the Spanish language and the associated cultures go together naturally. Familiarity with both language and culture will provide you with a different perspective on actors and singers of Hispanic descent such as Jennifer Lopez and Spanish artists such as Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dali.
5. Communicate with native Spanish speakers: Spanish is spoken worldwide and at home. Native Spanish speakers currently total over 350 million worldwide. The nation’s Spanish-speaking population is growing, and that trend is obvious right here in Delaware. At Georgetown Elementary School, for example, the student body is 40 percent Hispanic. Take the opportunity to learn and use your Spanish right here in your home state.
